Alleged N1bn theft: 13 Rivers church members get N1.3m bail

A High Court, sitting in Port Harcourt, has granted bail to 13 members of the Saint Mathew’s Anglican Church, Nkpogu, Rivers State, in a case bordering on conspiracy, assault and stealing of about N1bn belonging to the church. The 13 members of the church, who were arraigned on 22 counts on Wednesday, were alleged to have, among other offences, assaulted Venerable Chimela Samuel while he was officiating as a priest in charge of the church. Justice Crescent Dappa-Addo granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each with sureties, who should be prominent members of the church and residing within the jurisdiction of the court. In the case instituted by the Inspector-General of Police, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the 22 counts read to them by the court clerk, including that of unlawful transfer of money from the church account to personal accounts. Arraigned in connection with the offences are Victor Amachree, Kingdom Amadi, Eric Obi, Sunny Ohimai, Uche Okechuk...

Man beaten, paraded naked for stealing fan from church

A mob in Ogun State stripped and paraded a middle-aged man naked for allegedly stealing a standing fan from a Redeemed Christian Church of God, Onifade town via Ayobo, Ogun State. A video of the suspected thief being paraded naked was recently posted online in two parts. In the first part, the man was made to carry the fan he allegedly stole on his head while a crowd of spectators followed him with some of them chanting songs. The second video showed him after he had been led back to the church where he returned the fan. He was later led to where his clothes were and asked to wear them while a man flogged him with a stick. The video ended after he was made to sit in the grass while a voice called on the crowd to leave.

Female kidnapper stripped and paraded naked in Osun state A young, alleged female kidnapper was recently caught, stripped, beaten and paraded stark naked on the streets of Ilesha, Osun state. For those that may not understand Yoruba, the witnesses claim the lady had been attempting to kidnap an innocent little girl when nemesis caught up with her. They claim the child was following her without even being aware of where she was being led to. The video starts with the lady being stripped. She resists and they are unable to completely strip her until water is poured on her, which lubricates her skin and makes it easier for her clothes to be removed. The little girl, would be kidnap victim is briefly shown before the alleged kidnapper is led by the hand and paraded on the streets with jeers of “ole!” (thief) renting the air.
