The scripture in Genesis 6:1-7 states thus:
And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. Gen 6:1-7 KJV
The scripture revealed that when men began to multiply upon the earth due to God’s blessings, man’s corruption so abused and perverted this blessing that it turned into a curse. So is the practice in our present generation when man receives a boom of blessing, he is tempted to look out for new women or wives to corrupt that blessing. Next, we observed that the sons of God took the daughters of men, that is, the profane and strangers to God and godliness thus commit Adultery and Fornication with them. Their marriages which were induced by the lusts of their eyes were not ordained by God.
The scripture stated thus:
They followed the choice which their corrupted affections made. Thus God was displeased and provoked to anger.
The Holy Spirit strives with sinners by the convictions and admonitions of their conscience to turn them from sin to God. But if the Spirit is resisted, quenched and striven against, though He strives long, He will not strive always.
The scripture in Hosea 4:17 revealed how God strived with Ephraim until He left him.
This is the case of those who indulge in the sin of Adultery until they are led into Fornication and apostasy. God sees them incurably corrupt, carnal and sensual and that the inclination of their soul is towards the passions and lusts of the flesh having opposed the Spirit’s strivings and rendered them ineffectual.
God saw the fountain of sin in men’s heart in that the imaginations of the thoughts of their heart were wicked. They did not do evil through mere carelessness but they did evil deliberately and designedly, contriving how to do mischief. We do but mock God in saying that we are sorry for our sin and that it grieves us to the heart, if we continue to indulge it. This attitude compelled God to resolve to destroy man for his wickedness and wipe him off the earth.
The wickedness of that generation is here again at its fullness and principally caused by men and women who by their nature have been corrupted to indulge in Adultery and Fornication resulting in mixed marriages, without the fear of God.
As they defiled and corrupted the entire earth God was provoked into anger as such He destroyed it. Likewise we read in 1Corinthians 3:16-17 and 1Corinthians 6:19-20 where God clearly warns that if we defile and corrupt our body, the earthly vessel which is His temple with Adultery and Fornication He would have no alternative but to destroy it.

Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. 1 Cor. 3:16-17 KJV
Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. 1 Cor 6:18-20 KJV
In the Ten Commandments Adultery is declared forbidden by God. These Ten Commandments summed up the Law of God. Four of them dealt with one’s duty towards God while the other six is our responsibility towards our fellow neighbor. One of these six commandments however is the command in Exodus 20:14 which states thus:
“Thou shall not commit adultery”
It is immediately preceded by the command “Thou shall not kill”. In God’s mind, Adultery ranks along with Murder which is one of the most horrible sins and is one command that is strictly forbidden as Murder.
