Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? Matt 7:7-11 KJV
Here the scripture speaks of prayer as a means of obtaining what we want in three words of approach: Ask, seek and knock. When we ask, we lift our wants and burden to God. When we seek, we enquire of God for a thing of high value. When we knock the heavenly door we desire to enter into the house of God. Sin has shut and barred the door against us but by prayer and supplication unto the Lord, we are granted access. Seeking and knocking imply something more than asking and praying. We must not only ask but knock. We must come to God’s door importunately; not only pray but plead and wrestle with God like Jacob.
God has made a promise and will never fail.. He said we should ask and it shall be given to us. He did not say it shall be lent or sold to us but given to us.. The Lord complained by saying ”ye have not, because ye ask not or ask not aright”: what is not worth asking is not worth having.
Seek and ye will find. Whenever we sought for the Lord and found Him come to the scene of our situation he gives us an answer of peace.
Knock and the door shall be opened. Jesus Christ declared in His word that He is the Door.. Every door has a key. We have to seek, find out the right key to use in order to open the door.
Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. John 10:7-9 KJV
When we use the right keys the door of mercy and grace shall be opened and never to be shut against us. If we pray aright the scripture states that He hears us.
Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. James 4:2-4 KJV
As mentioned earlier in the course of these teachings, a spiritual prayer contains what God wants not what we want from God. Therefore we have to enquire from God before we open our desires to seek for that which we know He desires for us to have. By so doing we would not ask amiss.
