Kaduna - Herdsmen who fled Ninte village in Jema’a Local Government of Kaduna State have denied claims by the locals of carrying out reprisal attacks on communities in the area.
A representative of the herdsmen, Alhaji Abubakar Husseini, refuted the claims on Tuesday during a reconciliation meeting organised by a group, Community Peace Partnership, at the Chief of Godogodo palace in Antang.
Husseini said since they fled to Nunku village at the inception of the crisis, non of their members had moved out of their new location.
A cross section of traditional rulers who spoke at the meeting urged the warring parties, to stop wasting innocent lives and embrace peace.
The Chief of Godogodo, Mallam Iliya Ajiya, expressed satisfaction with the meeting describing it as a stepping board towards lasting peace.
Another monarch, the Kpop Gwong, Mr Paul Zaka, represented by the traditional council's Secretary, Mr Saleh Kure, urged the two parties to tolerate and forgive one another to ensure peaceful coexistence.
Dr Bege Katuka, the Interim Chairman of the local government said the presence of all stakeholders at the meeting was an indication of their willingness to end hostilities.
He said that the effort would accelerate the peace building process in the area.
Dmatrixnews reports that since the clash between herdsmen and locals in Ninte village, the two groups have continued to trade blames over alleged reprisal attacks on each other.
