Kidnapped Delta DPO: We believe he’s not dead – CP
ASABA—Delta State Police Command, weekend, said it believes that the kidnapped Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of ‘C’ Division, Asaba, Mr Valentine Mbalu, is not dead.
Briefing newsmen in Asaba, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ibrahim Zanna, said they were yet to know the whereabouts of the abducted Police officer.
He, however, said that from the confessional statement made by two suspects arrested in connection with the kidnap, the officer may be presumed dead.
Saying it was not true that the corpse of the DPO was found in Umunede bush as reported by a section of the media, he noted that though the command was yet to lay hands on the corpse, at present, the search is on, adding that the Inspector General of Police, IG, has approved the deployment of three sniffer dogs to help locate where the officer is or may have been buried.

Zanna also said that no fewer than 170 officers and men have been dispatched as a search party for the kidnapped officer.
He said: “On March 15, 2017, about 14.30hrs, while acting on available intelligence, Operatives of SAKCCS arrested one Suleiman Ibrahim a.k.a Carlos, ‘m,’ aged 29, a native of Mayolope town, Adamawa State, at Aduwawa area of Benin City, Edo State, and Yusuf Hamisu, ‘m’ of Eyan, Benin City.
“The suspects confessed to being members of a five-man kidnap gang that kidnapped the DPO and further disclosed that the victim died in their custody on 16/3/2017 as a result of his health challenges.
“The suspects have also unveiled the identities of the gang leader and other members of the kidnap gang, who operate between Edo, Kogi, Delta, Enugu and Anambra States. On further interrogation, the suspects also confessed to the kidnap of two civil servants attached to Delta State Government House, the murder of one Police officer and one woman, along Benin/Lagos by-pass in February.”
According to the state police boss, one of the suspects, Suleiman Ibrahim, allegedly confessed to the crime and narrated upon interrogation, how the officer was abducted, adding that their gang was linked to the kidnap and murder of the mother- in-law of one of the aides to the state governor about two months ago.
The police boss equally paraded a notorious kidnap kingpin terrorizing the people of Oghara and its environs, including other kidnap suspects across the state.
